History of Photoshop is interesting ,Thomas Knoll named person was a Ph.D student and create a program and named "Image Pro" But product is present in same name so it changed name and put it "PHOTOSHOP"
Adobe Photoshop can reads many extensions file jpg , png, bmp etc but the official file of this is PSD Files and PSB Files , PSD used for small Pixels and PSB is used for High Pixel like 300,000 pixels.
